For Stuart and Sarah Crosthwaite, stepping beyond the farm gate has reshaped their business, community and contribution to the dairy industry. From their farm in the Kiewa Valley, both have pursued leadership opportunities supported by Gardiner Foundation.
Sarah received a Gardiner-supported Nuffield Scholarship to study mental health in rural communities, travelling internationally and ultimately founding Open Road Counselling, a telehealth service supporting farmers across Australia.
Stuart completed the Australian Rural Leadership Program, which he says transformed how he leads his team and strengthened their business. His ARLP cohort also helped spark the concept that became the Regional Wellbeing Index, now used to inform decision-making in rural communities.
Both say Gardiner’s support gave them the confidence and opportunity to invest in their growth and give back to the industry.
