For Monique Bryant, a third-generation dairy farmer from Kaarimba on the banks of the Broken Creek, leadership is about connection, communication, and courage.
“The Australian Rural Leadership Program kicked off a very intense learning journey for me,” she said. “At the end of it, I came out a different person, a more empathetic person, a better communicator, and as a result, a better leader.”
Supported by Gardiner Foundation, Monique completed Course 28 of the Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) in 2014–15, an experience she describes as transformative.
“This would not have been possible without the very generous funding of the Gardiner Foundation,” she said. “The program gives you tools and skills to understand yourself, your leadership style, and how to become a better person and leader.”
Since completing the program, Monique has continued to take on leadership roles within the dairy industry. She joined the Australian Dairy Conference (ADC) programming committee in 2023 and was appointed Programming Chair for the 2025 Conference.
“I found the courage and desire to work more closely within our industry. None of that would have happened without the ARLP and Gardiner’s support.”
Monique believes that developing strong leaders is essential for the dairy industry’s resilience and future success.
“It’s really important that Gardiner continues to invest in people. Without strong leaders in our communities, it’s difficult for the dairy industry to remain progressive and sustainable.”
With more than two decades of dairy experience behind her, Monique remains deeply committed to her community and the future of Victorian dairying.
“I’m in this for the long haul,” she said. “And I’ll always be grateful to Gardiner for helping me become a better person and a stronger leader.”
