The Gardiner Dairy Foundation is inviting rural students in dairy communities to apply for 2019 Tertiary Scholarships.

Seven scholarships are available for students commencing study in a field that will contribute to the Victorian dairy industry or dairy communities. Each scholarship recipient will receive up to $10,000 per annum for three years whilst completing their university or TAFE course.

Students from regional communities can face significant obstacles when undertaking tertiary education, as they often need to travel long distances and live away from home. The Gardiner Dairy Foundation Tertiary Scholarships program assists students in attaining qualifications that will contribute to strengthening the dairy industry and their local communities.

“The Gardiner Dairy Foundation has increased the number of scholarships available from four to seven in 2019, to contribute to the development of dairy communities.” Gardiner Dairy Foundation CEO, Dr Clive Noble said.

“Education, particularly higher education, is a critical ingredient in ensuring the dairy industry and its people are able to meet the challenges of rapid change taking place in agriculture.”

Caitlyn Hocking is currently completing a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accounting at La Trobe University in Bendigo, and was awarded a tertiary scholarship in 2018.

“I am so grateful to receive a scholarship from the Gardiner Dairy Foundation. I am the first in my family to attend university and the scholarship has enabled me to be financially independent,” said Caitlyn.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Pursuing a field of study that will directly benefit the dairy industry or dairy communities
  • Commencing their first year of full-time tertiary study in 2019
  • Required to live away from home
